Signs of a Dental Emergency
Often patients try to tough it out, wait a few days, take over-the-counter medications. Medicine is only a temporary solution and may prevent you from getting the care you need. Remember, a dental emergency can lead to tooth loss without timely intervention.
There are many types of dental emergencies, and the signs may include one or more of the following:
- Toothache
- Gum or facial swelling
- Broken tooth
- Missing tooth
- Broken restoration
- Bleeding
- Fever
If you lose a tooth, rinse it off, being careful not to touch the root too much, and place it back in the opening. If this cannot be accomplished, keep the tooth wet until your emergency appointment. If Dr. Polizois intervenes promptly the tooth may be salvageable.
If the tooth is not salvageable, Dr. Polizois may recommend a dental implant.
