In the case of a bridge, both teeth on each side of the missing tooth trimmed down, an impression is made and sent to a lab. The lab fabricates a 3 unit structure that is sent back to the dentist to replace teeth. The bridge is then cemented onto those two neighboring teeth. An advantage to implants is that no other teeth need to be touched and they can be flossed individually. Also, when a dental bridge breaks or decays, the entire bridge may need to be removed. This is not the case with a dental implant, which functions just like an individual tooth.
